HUYU Electric has introduced the EXRPV DC Fuse Series to protect the DC part of utility-scale solar PV plants and commercial installations. The devices come in 32 A, 50 A and 80 A ratings and feature the ability to interrupt up to 50 kA. HUUY states that all fuses used to protect the strings and combiner box circuits are built following the IEC 60269 standard.

In a PV combiner box, several strings are connected in parallel, which is the reason why proper protection is needed. A fault in one string can originate from other strings as well, so the fuse has to disconnect a fault current from more than one point. The behaviour of DC is different from AC, however, as DC arcing does not cross zero and will not extinguish itself, meaning that one cannot expect a fuse designed only for AC to successfully clear any trouble current in a DC circuit. The EXRPV range is therefore designed to carry out this task as it has a DC voltage rating of 1000V, matching modern array voltages, three current ratings corresponding to typical string currents, breaking capacity of up to 50kA for high fault currents and compliance with IEC 60269, which allows confirming the effectiveness of the solution.
